Tom Gates, by Liz Pichon

Phoebe discovered Tom Gates by Liz Pichon through her friends and has now read lots of them (8 down, 4 to go I think). They are colourful and endearing. I would say these are great books for reluctant readers as they are full of pictures and don’t take a long time to read. Very silly but great fun. Phoebe’s review is here:

Tom Gates books are different to normal books because they are written like a diary. The words are in different styles and the pages are covered in doodles. In every book Tom gets into trouble and tries to get out of it, but it doesn’t always work. Marcus always annoys him at school. Delia is his grumpy sister who is always trying to get him out of the way.

In Super Good Skills (Almost) he goes on holiday – his family find themselves in a manky house that doesn’t look like the picture. There are blank spaces for you to doodle yourself, and activities for you to do.

They are really easy to read and it’s nice to have a quick read sometimes.”
